Kangana's ‘Indirect Taxes’ Comment Draws Ire From Twitter

New Delhi:

Kangana Ranaut’s remark on CAA protests at the Panga trailer launch takes a massive u-turn from Twittersphere. At the event, the actress when asked about the ongoing CAA protest condemned the violence and vandalization of public property while highlighting that only '3 to 4 per cent' of the population of the country is paying the taxes,

"I have many things to say and if I start talking then it will go on for a night. When you protest you should not resort to violence. In our country three to four per cent people pay taxes while the rest of them live off it so what gives you the right to burn buses and to create a ruckus. This should be looked into. As one bus costs Rs 70 to 90 lakh and this is not a small amount. There are people who are dying of malnutrition it is not reasonable for people to indulge in violence. This is my personal opinion, people are still hung on to the pre-Independence era.

“We are still hanging on to pre-Independence era. During that time, going on strikes against people who had captured us and not paying taxes was really cool. Isn’t it democracy if someone has gained power on the basis of what they wrote in the manifesto, and, today, they are fulfilling that? So, you can’t be a sore loser,” Kangana Ranaut added.

Her statement that only ‘3-4%’ people play taxes’, is received with side-eyes from Tweeple who took decided to school her regarding the subject on ‘indirect tax’.

‘’Firstly not smart to ask Kangana ji on tax collections - she is woefully ill informed. All the people pay indirect taxes and for Aam Aadmi it is a huge part of his income. Secondly - her views have always been divisive. If only she would read Dr Ambedkar , Gandhiji’’ replied Dr Ajoy Kumar on her statement.

‘’100% support to actor Kangana Ranawat on “violence” part of the tweet. But “economics” part is wrong, & also filled with arrogance. India collects about Rs 11 lakh crore a year in indirect tax (GST). Remember, the poor who buys, e.g. a Rs 5-biscuit, pays 90 paisa as tax (18%)’’ commented another.

‘’Every person in the country pay taxes. Not everyone pays income tax but taxes in the form of many things. When you buy a chocolate or eat a good in restaurants you pay taxes. In many daily routine we pay small small amount of taxes’ tweeted another user.
