New Delhi:

Ace designer Varun Bahl’s jungle-themed collection today opened the 27th edition of Amazon India Fashion Week (AIFW) Autum-Winter 2016 minus Bollywood presence.

The Delhi-based designer, known for his exotic motifs, used prints like owls, pomegranates, squirrels and flowers in hand embroideries.

“I have tried to create a dream world. It’s a jungle...  Flora and fauna have always been my inspiration,” Varun, who has been the choice of Kareena Kapoor Khan, Aditi Rao Hydari among others, told reporters after the show.

Titled as “Nocturne”, the young collection saw short dresses, biker jackets, tunics and gowns teamed with slim trousers and A-line skirts.

Ultramodern neoprene, handwoven silks, heavy crepe and light-as-air tulle, dominated the list of fabric used in the collection.

“The cuts I have used are both simple and classic, allowing for ease in styling and layering. Frills from straight hemlines were added to bring out a tinge of romance to the walk,” he said.

Taking the inspiration forward, the colour palette saw hues from the tropical forests to vintage wallpaper patterns like Ivory, beige, teal, peach, mustard, olive, leaf-green, gold, orange and fuchsia, with black infusing the jungle vibe throughout the range.

“I have actually played with the idea of period and age...This is a collection that can be worn by any woman.”

This year 101 designers from across the country are showcasing their collection through runway and exhibition. The five-day event is taking place at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
