After Salman Khan’s fallout with Sanjay Leela Bhansali over Inshallah, Ajay Devgn is all set to collaborate with the filmmaker for his upcoming film Gangubai Kathiawadi.
If a report in Bollywood Hungama is to be believed, Ajay Devgn will feature alongside Alia in the upcoming movie where the actress will potray the character of brothel leader. Ajay Devgn, on the other hand, will essay the role of one of Alia’s gangster lovers. Reportedly, the film is based on one of the chapters of Hussain Zaidi’s Mafia Kamathipura, in which Gangubai was the only brothel madam to own a black Bentley. The film is supposed to go on floors this year.
Well, it’s coincidental considering both Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn have worked with SLB in the romantic musical, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam .
A source close to the film’s development told to the portal that it was during a recent Diwali party that Ajay and SLB met and soon after the filmmaker invited him over to his office.
Post the meeting, SLB offered two films to Ajay, one of which is a biopic and the other film is fictional – Baiju Bawra – in which Ajay was offered a Tansen’s role.
The source added, “Ajay liked his role in Gangubai as it’s an intense character – a mobster with a golden heart who teaches Gangubai the tricks of the trade and falls in love with her. Ajay’s role in Gangubai is an extremely powerful and passionate one and will be remembered in cinema for the depth and romance in it.”
If things materialize soon, it will Ajay’s return to romance after having a fair stint in comedy and action films.
Meanwhile, Bhansali's next directorial venture will be Baiju Bawra and it is scheduled to be released in Diwali 2021.
