New Delhi:

She has spent close to one decade in the showbiz, and reality TV star-model Amber Rose believes the entertainment industry has become a better place for women.

Rose, who became popular after appearing in Kanye West’s “Put On” video in 2008, says the debate around gender equality has made the industry more sensitive towards women.

“Things have changed a lot for women in showbiz since when I started. We are all taking steps to move forward and be positive. Equality is something we all deserve,” Rose told PTI in a telephonic interview from Los Angeles.

The 34-year-old model, who has son Sebastian Taylor Thomaz with rapper Wiz Khalifa, says as women we need to teach men to treat their female counterparts with respect.

“As women, we need to constantly tell all men in our lives that we are not taking the abuse anymore. For generations, parents have taught their boys that it is ok to treat women that way. We won’t be tolerating it anymore. I believe next generation is going to be wiser compared to us. I am very happy about that,” she says.

Rose believes the change will come only if women support each other.

“As women, we need to speak out. Women need to support each other more than anyone else. We as women should not discriminate on the basis of colour, size and social background. Rather then mocking each other, we need to walk together.”

The “Amber Rose Show” host, who was the first celebrity to lead the now popular ‘Slutwalk’, says voicing her opinion or lending her support to causes, like gender equality and body positivity, has nothing to do with her “responsibility” as a celebrity.

“Responsibility is something which has to be done even if you don’t want to. For me, it is something which comes naturally. I do things for women because I love being a woman,” she says.

With the aim to empower women, Rose recently launched her free app ‘Amber Rose Official’ with US-based tech firm, Escapex. The app will feature her personal pictures, blogs, videos, etc, which she says will help women feel confident about themselves.

“I am an activist and a proud feminist so I wanted to empower women across the globe. I want women to tune into my app and be able to share their views and blogs on body positivity. I want women to feel more confident and tell them that they are beautiful the way they are,” she says.
