New Delhi:

Gigi Hadid is a name all too familiar in the runways, magazine covers and advertisement campaigns. Having graced hundreds of such stages as Victoria Secret Runway, Tom Ford, Moschino, Versace among hundreds, the VS model has an offbeat treasure of fans and followers behind her back.  Despite being one of the most successful current models, Gigi's success also comes with a barrage of critics who have claimed that her success should be credited to her ‘privileged upbringing”-parents Mohamad Hadid and mother Yolanda Hadid a Dutch-American television personality and former model.

Gigi Hadid, however, is in no qualms to take the criticisms any longer. The 23-year-old went on her background-reveal which fans and critics alike have overlooked by baring herself with her family’s line of climb. Gigi at a Sydney-based event spoke out against fan backlash at the launch of her collaboration with Reebok and went on to speak candidly about her upbringing: "People say that I don’t deserve to be where I am because I come from this successful family, but my parents were f*cking hardworking."

She continued, "My dad was a refugee. My mom was on a farm, went to New York, and worked to send money back to her family. They worked their asses off, and they’ve given me a life because of their hard work, and I work hard to honor that."
The model added, "I shouldn’t stay in my house because people say, 'You don’t deserve to be here because they were successful'. That’s not how I consider it in my house."

Nineties-era supermodels Naomi Campbell is the one who has always been 'subtlety-vocal' about the model’s success. In one interview while taking a diss at the young model, the former VS model said, "How we became known was...television, newspapers, magazines," she said. "So, it is a bit easier now. You have more of a reach."

To give-back blows to critics, Hadid also opened up to an unspoken issue many critics choose to overlook namely her biracial status and middle-eastern lineage. The model can see seen saying, “When I shot the cover, I wasn’t 'Arab enough' to be representing those girls, even though I’m half-Palestinian. I’m as Palestinian as I am Dutch. Just because I have blonde hair, I still carry the value of my ancestors, and I appreciate and respect that."

Gigi talks about boyfriend Zayn Malik

The model who is also co-incidentally dating the former One Direction member Zayn Malik who is also half-Pakistani, half English said that the duo also shares a bond in their mixed-race upbringing. She went on to say that when you come from two different worlds, you get to see how both sides treat each other, and you feel like the bridge of those two sides.
