New Delhi:

Fans know Alan Rickman as the enigmatic Professor Snape in JK Rowling’s’ Harry Potter books. What many are not aware of, is that, behind the mask of the grumpy professor lies an iconic actor who has also given us some of the most powerful performances in Hollywood. From Hans Gruber in Die Hard to the Sheriff of Nottingham, in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Alan Rickman is deeply loved as he lived and went. He was last seen in the Harry Potter and the Deadly Hollows: Part 2, 2011. But, did you know that before he wrapped up his last onscreen appearance, he also wrote an emotional letter for fans like he had a premonition of what would entail?

Exactly three years after Alan Rickman passed away at the age of 69, we revisit the emotional goodbye letter he left behind for his fans.

The Goodbye letter reads:

I have just returned from the dubbing studio where I spoke into a microphone as Severus Snape for absolutely the last time. On the screen were some flashback shots of Daniel, Emma, and Rupert from ten years ago. They were 12. I have also recently returned from New York, and while I was there, I saw Daniel singing and dancing (brilliantly) on Broadway. A lifetime seems to have passed in minutes.

Three children have become adults since a phone call with Jo Rowling, containing one small clue, persuaded me that there was more to Snape than an unchanging costume, and that even though only three of the books were out at that time, she held the entire massive but delicate narrative in the surest of hands.

It is an ancient need to be told in stories. But the story needs a great storyteller. Thanks for all of it, Jo.

Alan Rickman'

Writer JK Rowling, who conjured the much-loved Professor Snape also said an emotional goodbye in her tweet stating that she has no words to express how devasted she is about Alan’s Death. This goodbye letter of Alan Rickman is sure to make every Harry Potter fans revisit the Professor Snape lane that will involve tears and the wonderful cinematic experiences he has left behind
