Margot Robbie who stars alongside Saoirse Ronan in Mary Queen of Scots opens up about taking on the challenging role as Queen Elizabeth I. The Joker star who plays the historical Queen of England stated that she was initially hesitant to play Queen Elizabeth in Mary Queen of Scots as she felt "terrified".

Although we see a completely different Margot in a performance that shows her in a drastic transformation both in appearance and acting, the Tarzan actor felt that she wasn't up to take on the powerful role. The 28-year-old actor revealed that Queen Elizabeth who had been previously portrayed by Academy Award winners like Cate Blanchett, Judi Dench, Helen Mirren was too challenging a task and too big a role for her.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Margot stated,  "That (history of portrayals) was definitely something that ran through my mind many times. I'm not going to lie, I was terrified, and I initially passed on the role,".The actor then went on to say that it was director Josie Rourke that she play the part, relentlessly pursuing her after which she gave in. 

Mary Queen of Scots is a film based on John Guy's 2004 biography of Mary, Mary Queen of Scots and chronicles the deterioration of Mary and Elizabeth's relationship in the years after she returns to Scotland.
