Robert Pattinson has officially been announced the new Batman. Pattinson, best known for portraying Edward Cullen in the Twilight film series, has completed negotiations with the film makers. According to Variety, Pattinson will act as the Caped Crusader in director Matt Reeves’ film. Reeves along with his 'Planet of the Apes' collaborator Dylan Clark, is producing the film.  The Batman is scheduled to be released on June 25, 2021.

The final decision came down to Pattinson and Hoult, and after screen tests in-costume and some final considerations, Pattinson emerged victorious, according to media reports.

Following disappointment by 'Batman v Superman' (2016) and 'Justice League' (2017), Reeves is taking time to come up with a catchy script.

Pattinson will also be seen with John David Washington in Christopher Nolan's latest film, 'Tenet' releasing July 17, 2020. He toplines “The Lighthouse,” which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, and appeared in Claire Denis’ “High Life,” “The King” for Netflix and “Waiting for the Barbarians.”

Earlier, it looked like Warner Bros. and filmmaker Matt Reeves was trying their best to keep the identity of the caped crusader under capes. Reeves recently spoke with the Hollywood Reporter, explaining how his approach to the franchise will be different from what we've seen before.

"It's very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale," Reeves explained. "It's told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it's going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It's more Batman in his detective mode than we've seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that's not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I'd love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it's going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation."
