The detective film based on the novella of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle starring Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law's Sherlock Holmes 3 film series has been delayed. According to Variety, the release of the drama where the duo based on the characters created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, as they navigate different cases in the 1890s has been pushed back from December 25, 2020, to December 22, 2021.
Downey, 53, who played the ingenious British detective Sherlock Holmes in the series, with Law, 46, who plays the famous sidekick Dr Watson will both be returning for a threequel. "Narcos" co-creator Chris Brancato has written the script for the new film, which will be produced by Susan Downey, Joel Silver, and Lionel Wigram.
Both the films were helmed by Guy Ritchie but there is no news yet whether the director is coming back for the third part or not.
Sherlock Holmes 3 follows 2011's Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows after the period action franchise debuted in 2009 with Sherlock Holmes by Guy Ritchie. The detective movie had a $1 billion haul at the global box office against a total of just $215 million production budget, the Sherlock Holmes franchise proved to be a profitable film series, with a very likely return of the explaining the third development for a few years now. Originally scheduled to roll out December 25, 2020, the threequel now returns a year late on December 2021 instead.
