New Delhi:

Andy Serkis has confirmed that he has been in talks with Sony for the Tom Hardy starrer, Venom. Discussing fan rumours that Serkis will be taking the director’s seat for Venom 2, the actor and director told SFX magazine, "Yes I've had meetings with Sony, so that's potentially something that might happen. But we'll see....".

There were reports last month that Serkis, Travis Knight and and Rupert Wyatt are in talks with the studio to direct the sequel to the 2018 blockbuster. Ruben Fleischer who helmed the first Venom reportedly could not to return as he is currently busy with the post production of "Zombieland: Double Tap".

To make the rumours on Serkis directing Venom 2 more rigid, Tom Hardy in a now deleted Instagram post posted a picture of posted of Andy Serkis with only a spade and fire emoji suggesting Serkis is in fact taking over the director’s seat. Sony, however is yet to address these rumours.

Starring Tom Hardy in the title role, "Venom" was a global hit for Sony, earning over USD 850 million in worldwide gross. The film also featured Michelle Williams and Riz Ahmed in pivotal characters.

Tom Hardy is expected to return as the Spiderman nemesis, Eddie Brock. Speaking to Fandango on June, Sony producer Amy Pascal, when asked about the future of the Venom franchise said, "I can say that Tom Hardy will be back, magnificently playing that character as no one else can.’’

The studio hopes to start shooting the project later this year.
