The sequel to Oscar winner "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" is slated to release on April 8, 2022. Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios announced the second instalment of the Academy award winning movie. Joaquim Dos Santos has been set to direct the untitled sequel from Dave Callaham's script, which will continue Miles Morales' story.
The company tweeted out the announcement attached with a cool, glitchy video featuring a warped Spider-Man logo. It can be seen below.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is largely regarded as one of the best Spider-Man movies of all time, and a visionary take on the superhero genre. It was also awarded the Oscar for Best Animated Picture earlier this year
Into the Spider-Verse" centered on 13-year-old Brooklynite Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore), who becomes one of many Spider-Men.
Into the Spider-Verse" won the Academy Award for animated feature for Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, Rodney Rothman, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Its strong awards season included victories at the Annies, Golden Globes, BAFTAs and Producers Guild Awards.
Meanwhile, Sony and Disney announced that a 3rd Spidey film starring British actor will release in July 2021. The film – which follows up on Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far from Home – is set for release on July 16, 2021, the studios said.
