Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, who turned 90 this September, was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Breach Candy hospital in the early hours of Monday after she complained of breathing difficulties. Now, after much speculations around the veteran singer's health, her family has issued a statement saying that she is 'stable and much better'.

''Statement from #LataMangeshkar's family: Lata di is stable and much better. Thank you very much for your prayers. We are waiting for her to be at her best so she can be home soon. Thank You for being with us and respecting our privacy,'' the statement released by Mangeshkar’s family read.

The veteran singer's PR team in a statement on Tuesday said, "Her parameters are good. Honestly speaking, she has fought so well that she is coming out of this setback. Being a singer, her lung capacity has pulled her through. Truly a fighter. We will update everyone when Lataji gets discharged and comes home. (We) request that we give family the space they deserve at the moment," the statement read.

On Monday, Lata Mangeshkar's health scare caused a frenzy among her fans. While some reports claimed that her condition was critical, some said that she was discharged after which her team had to release a statement to put the record straight. "Lata Mangeshkar ji had a viral chest congestion. Keeping her age in mind, as a precautionary measure, she has checked in to Breach Candy Hospital in order to ensure antibiotics on time to prevent any more infection. She is stable and recovering," read the statement.

Mangeshkar has lent her voice for thousands of songs in Hindi, regional and foreign languages. Her last full album was for the late filmmaker Yash Chopra-directed 2004 film Veer Zaara. Mangeshkar recorded her latest song this year - Saugandh Mujhe Is Mitti Ki, which was released on March 30 as a tribute to the Indian Army. Born on September 28, 1929, Lata Mangeshkar has been awarded the Bharat Ratna, highest civilian honour Bharat Ratna in 2001. In 1974, the Guinness Book of Records ranked her as the most recorded artiste in the history. She had reportedly sung over 25,000 songs between 1948 and 1974.
