Bigg Boss Tamil: Kamal Haasan render's pensive speech on NEET activist Anitha's suicide

New Delhi:

Veteran actor Kamal Haasan on Friday condemened the Central Government for the death of Anitha on his popular reality show Bigg Boss Tamil. S Anitha, who fought against National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET), a common entrance exam for medical colleges in Supreme Court.

Kamal Haasan took the stage of his show to address the young girl’s tragic story.

“Show that you have brains too,” said Haasan on the show.

Haasan said, “Before going to the entertainment part of the show, I have certain questions. Each and every question has an answer. When someone understands that their question would never be answered, they give up, like our girl Anitha, and kill themselves. We cry over this issue and it shows that we have heart.

Answering unasked queries, the actor further continued, “If someone asks me what the solution is — I am someone who hasn’t finished school education. While I have the will do what is necessary, do I have the skill? Let the people who have the skill let us know. I will listen, we will listen. It is because someone forgot to listen that our heads are bowed down today, in shame. Deepest condolences to Anitha’s family”.

Only when we ensure that such incidents don’t happen in future, it will show that we have brains, too. What is the solution for this? If you ask me? I say, to correct this I’m interested but do I have that skill? Skillful people have to tell me that. I’m ready to listen. Just because someone was not ready to listen, we have bowed our heads out of shame. I thank Vijay TV for letting me talk on this issue on the show.”

Haasan said that there are people inside this house who have no clue  about what’s happening outside their house. “Is their ignorance is bliss?”

Medical aspirant S Anitha commited suicide on Friday after her dream to become a doctor shattered as she could not get admission into a medical college.

Anitha, a school topper had scored 1,176 marks out of 1,200 in her board exam but failed to perform well in the NEET.

Anitha was a Dalit and belonged to a very poor family of Tamil nadu's Ariyalur district. Her father is a daily wage labourer. After her death, shops in Ariyalur were shut on Saturday in protest.

The students of Tamil Nadu protested the decision and requested the court to exempt the state from NEET as it was allegedly more suitable for CBSC schools.

However, the SC last year exempted Tamil Nadu from the NEET but refused to continue the exemption this year.
