Coronavirus Lockdown: Mahabharat To Air On DD Bharti Starting Tomorrow, Announces Prakash Javadekar

Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar on Friday announced that DD Bharati will re-run the popular serial 'Mahabharat' starting Saturday (tomorrow). The airtime for the epic series will be every day at 12 noon and 7 PM.

In a tweet, Prakash Javadekar said, “Happy to announce that @DD_Bharati will relay from tomorrow Saturday 28th March popular serial Mahabharat at 12 noon and 7 pm everyday.”

This comes hours after Prakash Javadekar announced that 80s’ epic series ‘Ramayan’ will be aired from Saturday. While one episode of Ramayan will be aired from 9 AM to 10 AM, another in the evening from 9 PM to 10 PM. Ramayan will be aired on DD National.

The announcement was made with respect to huge demand from the public amid 21-day coronavirus lockdown. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a complete lockdown in the country amidst rising cases of coronavirus. According to the latest update from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 75 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in last 24 hours. The total number of cases in India stands at 724 with 17 deaths reported so far.

Coming back to Mahabharat, BR Chopra’s series starred Nitish Bhardwaj as Krishna and Roopa Ganguly as Draupadi, with Gajendra Chauhan, Praveen Kumar, Arjun, Sameer Chitre and Sanjeev Chitre as the Pandavas, and Punit Issar playing Duryodhana. The show originally ran from 2 October 1988 to 24 June 1990. On the other hand, Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan features Arun Govil as Ram and Deepika Chikhalia as Sita, with Arvind Trivedi playing Raavan and Dara Singh essaying Hanuman. The series originally ran from 25 January 1987 to 31 July 1988.

Not only Ramayan and Mahabharat, DD will also re-run Circus, Byomkesh Bakshi, Chanakya, and Upanishad Ganga.
