In an exclusive interview with Newsnation.in, actors Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher get candid about their upcoming debut movie Mirzya. The film, directed by veteran filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, is an intense love story.
The actors were in the national capital to promote the film that is slated to release on October 7.
Talking about the film, Harshvardhan said, “It is a very unique film and is inspired by the Punjabi folklore of Mirza-Sahiban. The movie deals with very complex human emotions and certainly has the potential to be remembered for a very long time.”
The film is an interpretation of eternal love story of Mirza-Sahiban and features two parallel worlds, one real and one fantasy. The melodious tracks of the film are composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy.
Speaking about the intense training and preparation for the film, Harsh said, “The training was very intense. We trained for 18 months to learn mounted archery, polo and also learnt bike riding on sand.”
Apart from the rigorous physical transformation, Harsh said, we had to go through a lot of emotional preparation for both the characters. “It was a consuming process to learn everything from the scratch,” said Harsh.
On asking about the experience of working with Saiyami Kher, he said, “It was amazing working with Saiyami. She is a very talented actress and we are planning to work on another film together soon.”
He added, “My father (Anil Kapoor) has really loved the film. I would also love to work with Sonam in the future if good offers come.”
Saiyami is all excited about the movie and feels privileged to have received such a good script for her debut film. She said, “It was fun shooting for Mirzya. The movie is all the more special to us as Gulzaar Sahab has written for the film after 15 long years. The music is also incredible.”
Mehra has given excellent films like Rang De Basanti (2006) and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013). He said, the actors, after the intense training sessions, were confident to perform all the stunts on their own. “I had the time of my life working with these two talented people. It was amazing to see the lights through their eyes,” Mehra said.
“I had an idea to share an eternal love story, whether love can be eternal or not. This film is all about that and is a modern day love story that draws inspiration from Mirza Sahiban. It is not the traditional Mirza-Sahiban but is the contemporary version of the folk tale,” the director said.
Harsh appealed to the viewers to watch the film and said it is a very different movie and a cinema experience that one should not miss.
