New Delhi:

Trailer of Taapsee Pannu starrer Thappad, a hard hitting film on domestic violence and how fair is physical assault of any kind is in a relationship or marriage is out and just like its poster,  and director Anubhav Sinha’s other film on societal norms, the grim film will be a court-room drama. Thappad talks about how domestic violence is still considered the regular order of a conjugal life and how a woman one day after an unfortunate incident, she decides to say no to it. Taapsee’s eyes speak a thousand emotions of being hurt, and deprived of respect in a marriage.

The trailer opens with Taapse being told by a public prosecutor that she is being asked to return home to which she disobeys. When asked why was she slapped, the trailer moves to the past where Taapsee is seen leading a blissful married life when over a party, her husband played by Pavail Gulati ends up slapping her in a room full of guests. Things change thereon and her in bits and parts relatives and friends of the character trying to convince her with words like, ‘ bit of violence in relationship is acceptable, ‘women should learn to adjust’ or ‘right decisions always don’t make up happy. The movie deals with the inner turmoil of Taapsee who loses love for her husband after the incident and is torn between the societal norms and her righteous to take decision. Apart from the stark visual that reminds of the peculiar beliefs of an Indian middle class society, the dialogues are indeed hard-hitting andcan pierce you at the right place. In a dialogue, Taapsee says that moment made her reconsider her decision or something to that effect and you can feel it.

In several parts it appears as Thappad is Anubhav Sinha's answer to Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Kabir Singh where he has tried to justify violence in relationship.

Apart from Taapsee and Pavail the cast includes Ratna Pathak Shah,Tanvee Azmi, Dia Mirza, Sushil Dahiya and many more great actors.

Taapsee known for playing liberated, radical characters in films such as Pink, Mulk, Saand ki Aankh said the upcoming film is an ode to India women and explores gender dynamics in relationships.

"Thappad' is about those said-unsaid things women are supposed to do. For years we have been living like that. It raises questions like ‘why women need to be a certain way?' I'm playing this average Indian woman, who is also taught to be a certain way. The biggest challenge for me and Anubhav sir was how to rip that fiery image off me because audiences are used to seeing me doing something radical,’’ the actor had earlier said during a film festival.

The film is the first project as a part of the multi-film deal between producer Bhushan Kumar and Sinha.
