New Delhi:

A viral post on social media is claiming that the Chinese government has sought court's approval to kill 20000 people infected with the deadly Coronavirus in order to stop the endemic. This was a very absurd claim and raised our eyebrows. It became pertinent to investigate the claim as lots of lives were at the stack. News Nation fact-checkers immediately swung into action and started digging into the viral post.

What Was The Claim?

A Facebook page Science Facts shared the post which claimed – "China seeks for court’s approval to kill the over 20,000 coronavirus patients to avoid further spread of the virus."

News Nation Investigation

At the very first look, we knew it the post was a screenshot of a website named City News. So, we googled the City News website and read the full content of the article. The so-called news article was full of grammatical and spelling errors. We also found out that the website had also published several misleading posts in the past as well. The website’s authenticity was questionable but to be fully sure, we also checked the official website of "The Supreme People’s Court Of The People’s Republic Of China". There was no mention of such appeal by the Chinese government.

We also checked the World Health Organisation (WHO) website and there was no such information about it. If China was contemplating to kill so many people, the WHO would have reported it. Although it became evident that the post was fake, we decided to dig a little deeper just to be sure again.

So, we checked leading fact-checking websites. In one such website named Vishvas News, we found out an article about the post. Vishvas News had spoken to Shamim Zakira, one of the editors of Global Times, mouthpiece of China's ruling party. Zakira too have rubbished the claim and termed it "a case of fake news". After this, there was no doubt this was a fake news.

Conclusion

After thoroughly investigating, News Nation fact-checkers found that the news article claiming that China is planning to kill 20000 Coronavirus patients was FAKE NEWS.
