Photos of star-England all-rounder having a scuffle with his wife are going viral on the internet after website Guido Fawkes published them with a claim that the cricketer choked his wife following an argument. The pictures published by the website purportedly show Stokes having an "argument" with his wife and his hand on her face at an awards event.

"The evening began happily enough for the couple, enjoying a drink at the bar, chatting with a mate, everything was fine. Then something happens and Clare tells Ben she doesn’t want to hear it, speak to the hand. They go off to a side room and a row starts, anyone at the event couldn’t be unaware of something going on. All of sudden Stokes grabs his wife Clare in a chokehold…” the website claimed.

However, Ben Stokes and his wife Clare have quashed the story claiming a physical altercation between them. Clare termed the story "nonsense" and said that she and her husband "squish up each other’s faces" to show affection.

"Unbelievable what nonsense these people will make up!” she wrote on Twitter along with a picture showing a hand squishing up Ben's face inside a car. "Me and Ben messing about squishing up each other’s faces cos that’s how we show affection and some pap tries to twist it into a crazy story! And all before we then have a romantic McDonalds 20 mins later!"

England and Wales Cricket Board chief executive Tom Harrison also came out with a statement and said that they spoke to both Ben and Clare who then clarified the "innocent" context behind the pictures.

"We have spoken with both Clare and Ben – as well as others in attendance – who have all clarified the innocent context behind the still photographs taken at last week’s PCA Awards," Harrison said.
