India’s juggernaut in the ICC cricket World Cup came to an end when the Men in Blue were mauled by four times champions Australia by 95 runs in the second semi-final at the Sydney cricket ground. On the given day, both Indian batsmen and bowlers never live up to the expectation and flopped in every aspect of the game.

MS Dhoni and his boys entered the World Cup as reigning champions and displayed some amazing cricket in the group stages to top the pool. However, the loss in semis has left billions of heart shattered but we will salute the spirit of game showcased by the Indian Team during the mega event.

Let’s look at some factors why we should cheer for Team India:

1-      The Indian team showed a fighting spirit after a disastrous Down Under. During Australian summer, India lost the Test series badly, got mauled in tri-series and went to World Cup without winning a single match in last three months. But, the Men in Blue came back to humiliate both arch-rivals Pakistan and formidable South Africa in its first two matches of the mega event. India rammed the other teams in the group and even trashed Bangladesh in quarters.

2-      The pace attack which was wayward and criticised during the Australian tour, suddenly got wickets upfront. The quicks hunt in packs and used the short pitch delivery to the advantage. The pace trio gave a good platform for the spinners to choke the opposition in the middle overs. Indian bowlers claimed 78 wickets in 8 matches they played.

3-      Indian batsmen were always sitting ducks in Down Under. Yet, the openers displayed some amazing cricket, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma both scored centuries. Dhawan also notched up over 400 runs to become the 4th Indian to achieve the feat. The middle order was also looking solid with Virat, Rahane, Raina in top form. MS Dhoni and Jadeja always gave late surge to the team when it required.

4-      Captain Cool MS Dhoni displayed some amazing captaincy in the World Cup to lead the Men in Blue with passion. He is the only captain to have ICC World Cup, T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy under his belt. MS Dhoni is now second in the list after Ricky Pointing in consecutive World Cup wins.

5-      Ground fielding has one of the weak departments of Indian cricket over the years. But the Dhoni brigade has overcome the nausea and support the team with brilliant fielding. The young side caught some good catches and stopped runs to boost the bowlers.
