New Delhi:

Come Sunday, it will be Trans-Tasmanian clash to decide the new World champions at MCG. But still underarm ball is in the memory of Kiwis.

In February 1, 1981 New Zealand needed six to tie the World series one-day, the then Australian skipper Greg Chappell asked his brother Trevor to bowl the last ball of a one-day match along the ground at the MCG.

In form Brian McKechnie on strike, blocked the ball and threw his bat away in disgust. The Black Caps had lost but the outcry was such that the defeat has vibrated in all subsequent games between the two nations.

The then Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser asked Chappell to apologise while his New Zealand counterpart Robert Muldoon jibed he thought it was appropriate the Australian team was dressed in yellow. It is also one of the most disgusting episodes in the history of cricket.
