New Delhi:

At least two people were killed and three others injured after a building collapsed inside the Coimbatore railway station. It is to be noted that due to the heavy rains the railway parcel service building collapsed at around 4 am on Thursday.

Importantly, Coimbatore has been receiving heavy rainfall from Wednesday night. Soon after the unfortunate incident, the railway officials alerted that concerned authorities. The rescue workers and fire department men reached the spot immediately and carried out rescue operations. More than 50 fire and rescue services personnel and Railway Protection Force men were involved in the rescue work.

As many as five people were rushed to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital where two were declared dead. Three others are criticalluy injured and were admitted in ICU. According to a report of timesofindia.indiatimes.com, the deceased were identified as Pavizhamani and Ibrahim of Mettupalayam.

In a tweet, the news agency ANI said, “Coimbatore: 2 persons dead and 3 admitted to hospital with critical injuries as railway parcel service building at Coimbatore railway station collapses due to heavy rain. The incident took place around 4:00 am today.”
