8 killed, over 25 injured after truck overturns in Odisha’s Kandhamal district

At least eight people were killed, while 25 others sustained serious injuries after a truck overturned in Odisha's Kandhamal district on Tuesday, reported news agency ANI. The incident took place at Poiguda ghat near Baliguda in Kandhamal after the driver lost the balance and the truck caved in a gorge. The police reached the spot and rescued the injured with the help of locals. All the injured people were rushed to nearby hospitals in Berhampur and Brahmanigan.

Earlier on Monday, six people were killed, and 20 others injured in two separate road accidents in Odisha. While four people, including a woman, died and five others were injured after their vehicle collided with a truck on Cuttack-Chandabali road under Kendrapara Sadar police station, two persons killed when a passenger bus carrying them turned turtle near Choudwar in Cuttack.

In the accident, 15 others also sustained severe injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Few of them were said to be in critical condition. 

"The bus was apparently trying to overtake another vehicle had swerved extreme right, and went over a mound of stacked beside the road and turned turtle," the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Cuttack City, Trinath Mishra, said. While two people died on the spot, the driver of the bus fled the scene after the accident, the Cuttack city DCP (Additional) added.
