New Delhi:

Close to 8,000 paramilitary troops are being airlifted from Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Assam and other parts of the country to the Kashmir valley. Meanwhile, Indian Army and Indian Air Force have been put on high alert, following revoking of Article 370 and other decisions announced by Government of India.

The development comes immediately after Union Home Minister moved a bill proposing bifurcation of the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories -- Jammu and Kashmir division and Ladakh.

Shah said that J-K will have its own legislature. He also proposed that Ladakh will be a Union Territory as well minus the legislature. Earlier, Shah said that Article 370 - which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir - will be removed. The Opposition-led by the Congress said that the timing of such a resolution was not right.

Jammu and Kashmir has been on the edge for the past few days and deployment of additional security forces in the state started last week.

The administration of Jammu and Kashmir, which is under President's rule, has ordered curtailment of annual Amarnath Yatra and asked pilgrims and tourists to leave Kashmir Valley, citing terror threat. Mobile internet services were suspended across the Valley as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order, police said.

Earlier, there were reports that 100 companies (10,000 personnel) of central forces were ordered for deployment in the state about a week ago and they are in the process of reaching their destinations.

Earlier, 28,000 additional troops were deployed in Jammu and Kashmir.
