In yet another Muzaffarpur shelter home like incident as many as 9 girls have gone missing from Sanskar Ashram shelter home in Delhi's Dilshad Garden on Sunday. Soon after the news broke Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia directed the Chief Secretary to suspend senior officers over laxity. The development came after the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) wrote to Sisodia, demanding strict action against the erring officials.
"Delhi: 9 girls have gone missing from Sanskar ashram shelter home in Dilshad Garden. Deputy CM Manish Sisodia has directed Chief Secretary to suspend senior officers on DCW Chairperson's representation," the news agency ANI reported.

Meanwhile, an FIR has been lodged by the Delhi Police on Sunday morning when the sudden disappearance came to light. In May, the nine girls were shifted from another shelter home in Dwarka. They were earlier rescued from human traffickers.
In early 2018, there were also reports that one of the children was subjected to severe abuse and corporal punishment by the superintendent of the Sanskar shelter home but no action has been taken by either the Department of Women and Child Development or the Delhi Police so far.
There has been a sharp increase in women and child sexual abuse reported to the police in recent times with Muzaffarpur, Aasra and other sexual abuse cases coming to light in the last few months.
In a similar incident, over 30 girls aged among seven to 14 years, in July were drugged, scalded with boiling water, raped and forced to sleep naked at Muzaffarpur shelter home run by Brajesh Thakur, the chief of the state-funded NGO. The alleged sexual exploitation of the minor girls was first highlighted in an audit report submitted by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences to the state's social welfare department.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is currently probing the case, which to the mental, physical and sexual exploitation of the girls at the state-funded NGO. So far, 17 people have been arrested in connection to the same.
While shock and terror engulfed the nation with the Muzaffarpur shelter home case, another surge of horror rattled the country after two inmates of Aasra Shelter home in Patna died in August.

On August 12, Ashwini Sharma, director of a government-run hostel in Bhopal, allegedly raped a deaf-mute inmate and molested several others, seizing the attention of millions. A total of four girls were kept in a separate house allegedly by Sharma in Crystal Ideal City in Awadhpuri.
