Aero India 2019 LIVE UPDATES: Nirmala Sitharaman to inaugurate Asia’s biggest air show shortly

New Delhi:

Aero India 2019: The biggest air show in Asia, Aero India 2019 will begin at the Indian Air Force’s Yelahanka station today. Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will inaugurate the air show in a short while form now. The Sukhoi SU-30, Rafale, F-16 Fighting Falcon, F/A-18 Super Hornet and the mighty B-52 Stratofortress bomber will be part of the air show. Ahead of air show, an Indian Air Force pilot lost his life after two Surya Kiran planes collided mid-air during rehearsals.

India has established itself as a hub with proven capabilities of manufacturing and export of world class aerospace components, structures, avionics, technology, design, skills, innovations and now it has the potential and competence of end-to-end or as they say “nose-to-tail production” says Nirmala Sitharaman as she inaugurates Aero India show.

Addressing the event, Union Minister of Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu said that, “this event is to demonstrate and to build aviation sector as best. Thanks to PM, we have grown up to 20%.” He also added that India needs 2300 new aeroplanes.

"India has introduced procedural reforms in defence manufacturing. We have space for everyone including of DPSUs, private firms and others. Aero India Show is a mega event that showcases India's capabilities and strength in aerospace," says Minister of State Subhash Bhamre at the inauguration.

Ahead of the grand inauguration, two-minute silence was observed to pay tributes to Wg Crd Gandhi, who died in yesterday’s crash.

CEO's round table, drone Olympics, startup manthan and women's day (to celebrate women achievers) will be some of the highlights of Aero India-2019.

The Aero India official website said a total of 61 aircraft would be on display and 403 exhibitors would be part of the show.

On static display will be HAL's Light UtilityHelicopter  (PT-1), Light Combat Helicopter (TD-2), Advanced Light Helicopter (Rudra) and ALH MICU (Medical Intensive CareUnit).

Jaguar, Tejas and Sukhoi will fly in 'Missing Man' formation as a mark of tribute to Wg Cdr Sahil Gandhi who died in yesterday's Surya Kiran crash. The Jaguar will be piloted by Wg Cdr Avasthi [R] (HAL), Tejas by Wg Cdr Siddharth (NFTC) and Sukhoi by Wg Cdr Prashanth (IAF/HAL).
