In the second high profile exit in less than a month, Samajwadi Party MP in Rajya Sabha, Surendra Nagar on Friday resigned from the party. This comes after his colleague and Samajwadi Party MP Neeraj Shekhar's resignation. While Neeraj has already joined the BJP, Nagar is also likely to join the saffron fold.
Earlier last month, Neeraj Shekhar, son of former prime minister Chandra Shekhar, had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a day after quiting as Samajwadi Party Rajya Sabha MP. Neeraj had been contesting Lok Sabha polls from his father's pocket borough Ballia and won twice in 2007 and 2009 but lost in 2014.
He wanted to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Ballia but his demand was rejected by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, who fielded Sanatan Pandey from the constituency. This led to a fued between Neeraj and Akhilesh Yadav.

Recently in Maharashtra, seven-time Congress legislator Kalidas Kolambkar (Wadala in south Mumbai), NCP's Sandeep Naik (Airoli), Vaibhav Pichad (Akole) and Shivendra Raje Bhosale (Satara), who quit their parties and legislative seats, joined the BJP in presence of Maharashtra president Chandrakant Patil and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Besides, NCP founder and former state minister Madhukar Pichad, and state NCP's women's wing president Chitra Wagh also joined the BJP to a huge round of applause.
