Ahead of Amit Shah-Uddhav Thackeray meet, Shiv Sena mock BJP’s ‘Sampark for Samarthan’ campaign

New Delhi:

On the day when BJP chief Amit Shah is scheduled to meet Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray to mend ties with the disgruntled ally, an article published in Sena’s mouthpiece Saamana has mocked the saffron party’s outreach program ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

BJP is reaching out to NDA allies under the ‘Sampark for Samarthan’ outreach program to seek their support ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. During the meeting with Thackeray, Shah will look to bridge the trust gap between the allies.

However, an editorial published in Saamana mocked BJP’s campaign and said that the ruling party has launched a global outreach programme and “as per the programme, Modi is undertaking a world tour and Shah a domestic one.”

Putting a question mark on Shah’s meeting with the Shiv Sena chief after recent bypoll drubbings, Sena’s mouthpiece declared that the party will go alone in 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

“Shiv Sena showed its strength during Palghar bypoll. In such a condition, 2019 Lok Sabha polls can be one reason behind BJP chief’s Sampark Abhiyan,” the article read.

Taking a dig at the BJP for contesting every election on Modi’s name, the article stated that Shiv Sena is a party which fights elections on the basis of public connection and it doesn’t need “poster boys” to win.

The ties between the BJP and the Shiv Sena, which is the saffron party’s oldest ally in NDA, have been strained for some time. The Sena even fought the recent Palghar bypoll on its own.
