Amid strong speculation, Wikipedia announces Pramod Sawant as Goa's new Chief Minister

New Delhi:

Goa politics is witnessing the most troubled times right now. At one end, the state is mourning the demise of its favourite son Manohar Parrikar, on the other end backroom politics is going on the stake the claim to form next government. Amid all this, Wikipedia has already announced the new Chie Minister of Goa. The Wikipedia page (pictured), was edited today and shows the changes. “The Chief Minister who succeeded ex CM Manohar Parikkar, Dr Pramod Sawant was born on 24 April 1973 to Pandurang and Padmini Sawant,” the page read.

The Wikipedia faux-paus may or may not have any bearing on the ongoing situation, which is very fluid. As of now, Goa BJP says that the decision on next Chief Minister will be taken soon. According to party legislator Michael Lobo, the name of the next CM will be announced shortly. Goa BJP chief Vijay Tendulkar said the swearing-in would be held sometime after 3 pm. Meanwhile, the Congress yet again staked claim to form government in the state. Only days ago, it had made a failed attempt to turn the tide.

"We met the Governor and staked claim to form government as we are the single largest party in the state. We have 14 MLAs and we should be given the chance to form the government. We have told that we will prove majority. Saddened by demise of Goa CM," Congress leader Chandrakant Kavlekar said.

In Panaji, the affection and popularity Parrikar enjoyed from ordinary Goans was on display as hundreds of common folks, and his party workers lined up to pay tributes to Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar, who died Sunday after prolonged illness. Parrikar, 63, will be accorded state funeral with full military honours at Miramar on Monday, an official said.

People gathered at the BJP office in Panaji to pay last respects to the late leader. A pall of gloom descended on the BJP office and hundreds of Parrikar supporters turned emotional when his mortal remains, wrapped in the Tricolour, was brought there.
