Union Home Minister Amit Shah tabled the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2019 in the Rajya Sabha today. “I have brought the proposal to extend by 6 months the President's rule in Jammu & Kashmir which is ending tomorrow,” Shah said in the Upper House. The resolution to extend the President's Rule in Jammu and Kashmir for another six months was already passed by the Lok Sabha. The Union cabinet earlier this month chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had approved the extension of President’s Rule on the grounds of the prevailing situation in the state as put down in the report of the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.
In his debut speech in the Lok Sabha last week, Shah had attacked India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and the Congress for the Kashmir policy. "Jawaharlal Nehru announced ceasefire and Pakistan took away that part of Kashmir," he said alleging that Nehru did not take the then Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Sardar Patel into confidence.
However, the Congress hit back at Shah for the allegations. Manish Tiwari attacked Shah and said that, “Congress has handed a progressive state to succeeding governments in Jammu & Kashmir. It is the alliance of ideologically incompatible parties which is responsible for the state of affairs in Jammu & Kashmir, where President's Rule is being sought so frequently."
