New Delhi:
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley officially took additional charge as Union Defence Minister on Tuesday after Manohar Parrikar stepped down from the ministry to take charge as Goa CM.
A communique from the President office said that resignation of Parrikar from Defence Minsiter’s post has been accepted with immediate effect.
As BJP staked claim to form an alliance government in Goa, Parrikar quit his post and will be sworn in as the chief minister of Goa on Tuesday.
This is the second time that Jaitley is holding the additional portfolio of Defence Ministry during the present NDA government. He was in charge of the ministry earlier from May 26 to November 9 in 2014.
