New Delhi:

Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal on Monday supported the central government’s ambitious move of bifurcating Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and removal of Article 370, 35A. He believes that the removal of Article 370, 35A in Jammu and Kashmir will bring peace and development in the state.

It is to be noted that in an historic move, centre-led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi bifurcated Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. Massive chaos was witnessed in Rajya Sabha on Monday, Home Minister Amit Shah declared Jammu and Kashmir as Union Territory. Shah said that J-K will have its own legislature. He also announced that Ladakh will also be a Union Territory but without the legislature.

In the meantime, Article 370 – which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir – is removed. Also, the Article 35A of the Indian Constitution, which empowers Jammu and Kashmir state's legislature to define “permanent residentsâ€Â of the state and provide special rights and privileges to those permanent residents, has been scrapped with immediate effect after direct approval from President Ram Nath Kovind.

Reacting to the move of Modi government, Arvind Kejriwal said, “We support the govt on its decisions on J & K. We hope this will bring peace and development in the state.â€Â

On the other hand, former AAP leader Kumar Vishvas thanked the Modi government and said that it’s a historic moment.
