New Delhi:

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his Deputy Manish Sisodia along with other cabinet colleagues on Tuesday continued their sit-in protest at Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal’s residence since last evening.

Kejriwal, Sisodia, and two other ministers - Gopal Rai and Satyendra Jain - met Lt Governor (L-G) Anil Baijal at 5.30 pm on Monday with two key demands – action against IAS officers, who have struck work for last four months and approve doorstep delivery of rations.

Kejriwal and his team refused to leave till the time L-G accept their demands. They spent entire night sleeping on the couch in the waiting area of Raj Niwas.

The office of Baijal, however, said that there was no strike by IAS officers but there was “atmosphere of mistrust and fear” among the bureaucrats since the alleged attack on Delhi’s chief secretary in February.

Baijal also accused the Kejriwal of “threatening” him.

Reacting to Baijal’s press release, the Delhi CM claimed that the officers were being threatened by Raj Niwas and accused the Lieutenant Governor of promoting rebellion against his government on the direction of Prime Minister’s office.

“Many officers have told us that they have been threatened by Raj Niwas of dire consequences if they withdrew their strike. L-G promoting active rebellion against the elected government at PMO’s instance. People of Delhi will not tolerate this,” he said in a tweet.

This is probably the first in the history when a sitting chief minister has to spend the whole night in L-G office to press for their demands.

As their leader and colleagues were protesting inside, a number of AAP MLAs, party’s leaders, and workers camped near the L-G office overnight while the police barricaded the area.
