Amid the heightened demand of a fast-track hearing by various right-wing organisations, including the ruling Bharatiya Janta Party, the Supreme Court is scheduled to take up a batch of petitions in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute case on Friday. A two-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice SK Kaul is likely to decide on when the hearing of the Ayodhya land dispute case will begin. They are likely to constitute a bench to hear the petitions filed against the 2010 Allahabad High Court judgment that ordered equal distribution of the 2.77-acre land among the three parties -- the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla. On October 29, the Supreme Court had denied urgent hearing in the case, saying that it wasn’t the ‘priority’ and decided January 4 as the date when it will take a decision on when to start the hearing and if the case deserves to be fast-tracked. Earlier during the hearing of the Ayodhya land dispute case, a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court had refused to refer to a five-judge constitution bench the issue of reconsideration of its observation in the 1994 judgment that a mosque was not the integral part of Islam.
