The nationwide shutdown called by the Congress started from Rajghat on Monday as the petrol price continued to spiral upwards as it touched Rs 80.73/litre mark in Delhi and diesel hit Rs 72.83 while in Mumbai, petrol was priced at Rs 88.12/litre and diesel at 77.32/litre. Meanwhile, the rupee on Monday stooped to a record low of 72.18, falling 45 paise against the US dollar due to strong demand for the US currency from importers. The nationwide protest has also been called due to the depreciation of the rupee in the country.
