New Delhi:

What feels like a sigh of relief to ex-DUSU president Ankiv Baisoya, the Delhi High Court on Tuesday dismissed a plea of NSUI's Sunny Chillar challenging the election of the former for allegedly furnishing a fake bachelor's degree to get admission to the varsity. In his plea, Chillar sought re-election for the present session, claiming that once the degree was found to be fake, the nomination itself becomes void ab-initio. However, Justice Yogesh Khanna rejected Chillar's plea seeking to conduct fresh elections this morning.

On November 15, Baisoya resigned from the post of DUSU president and was also relieved from all the organisational responsibilities of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) till the enquiry in the fake degree case is over.

Taking to Facebook, Baisoya said he was resigning from his post because he respects the mandate of Delhi University students, who voted for him.

Speculations have been also rife that ABVP's Shakti Singh, who is currently serving as the DUSU vice-president could be promoted to president's post since the two month period for fresh election has expired in November.

The DUSU polls took place on September 12 and the results were declared on the very next day.

In DUSU elections 2018, Chillar had lost to Baisoya in the race for the post of DUSU president. Days after NSUI, the students' wing of the Congress and several other organisations started raising questions about the authenticity of Ankiv’s degree.
