Defending the Central Government's plea in the Supreme Court seeking its permission to return excess land around the disputed Ram Janambhoomi Babri Masjid site to original owners, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said the Centre is not touching the disputed area. Javadekar said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will take whatever legal measure is required to build Ram Temple on Ram Janmabhoomi.
"The BJP always maintained that the Ram Temple be built on Ram Janmabhoomi. Whatever legal measure is required, the BJP will try for that. The PM had clarified that people want temple but the matter is sub-judice and measures will be taken accordingly. Today's application is also a legal decision," Javadekar was quoted as saying by ANI.

Javadekar also accused the Congress of always trying to block the process of the temple construction. The Union minister said that the party doesn't believe in Ram. Javadekar told reporters it would be up to the Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas what it does with the land returned to it and the government would not interfere in that.
"The government is not touching the disputed land," Javadakar said at a press conference hours after the government filed its plea in the top court. Â
"Today the government has taken a very important in principle decision to return the excess land, which was acquired in 1994, to the original land owners. Out of 67 acres of undisputed land, the land owner for 42 acres is the Ram Janambhoomi Nyas. Government wants to return the land to its original owners and they want to build the Ram temple there," Javadekar said.
Asked about the Congress questioning the timing of the government decision, coming weeks before the Lok Sabha elections, Javadekar alleged the opposition party "never believed in existence of Lord Ram and described him as an imagination in an affidavit filed in the court in the Ram Setu case."
"The Congress always tries to block the process. Kapil Sibal's argument of allotting a date for hearing in the matter only after July 2019 is evident to that. They don't believe in Ram. An affidavit submitted by the then Congress government on Ram Sethu called it imaginary," he said.Â

The Centre on Tuesday moved the Supreme Court seeking its permission to return the excess or superfluous land around the disputed Ram Janambhoomi Babri Masjid site to original owners, including the Nyas.
