New Delhi:

With 2018 assembly elections right around the corner, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified its campaign in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram, which are set to go on the poll in December this year.

Addressing the farmers in poll-bound Rajasthan, BJP president Amit Shah on Tuesday promised to double their income by 2022. Shah, who is on a three-day tour to Rajasthan pleaded the farmers to vote for the Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and Prime Minister Narendra Modi if they want to increase their income.

During his speech at a farmers’ conference in Nagaur, Shah launched a scathing attack on Congress and its leader Sachin Pilot in Rajasthan's Nagaur for not taking care of the farmers' worries. To hail the welfare projects of Raje's government, Shah said "Income of the farmers is to be doubled, only BJP govt can. No other govt can".

Shah was referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first speech after forming government at the Centre in 2014 and said that the slogans of BJP and Modi are not only election slogans. “We know the slogans convert in reality,” he said.

“Congress governments can never do good to farmers. In the last 70 years, the farmers have been benefited only by BJP governments,” Shah reiterated. He also accused the Congress of black-marketing urea and cited the work done by the Centre regarding minimum support price, crop insurance scheme, loan waiver, disaster relief compensation, and other plans for the farmers. "But, now farmers are getting urea easily," he was quoted as saying.

The BJP chief's visit to Nagaur is significant as the district is considered to be the heartland of farming in Rajasthan.
