New Delhi:

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Saturday accused the Congress party of “breaking India” while asserting that the Narendra Modi-led NDA government was working for “making India”.

Addressing party workers and leaders at the BJP’s national executive meeting in New Delhi, Shah claimed that his party will return to power in 2019 with a bigger victory than 2014.

Launching a scathing attack on the Opposition, Shah said that the proposed anti-BJP “maha-gathbandhan” (grand alliance) was an illusion and myth and won’t make any difference to its fortunes.

The BJP chief directed party workers to build a narrative around the theme of nationalism while accusing the Opposition of sympathising with “urban Naxals” and working for “breaking India” in frustration over electoral drubbings.

Union minister Nirmala Sitharaman briefed the media about Shah’s speech and said he termed the Opposition parties as “disruptionists” and claimed that the BJP will win a bigger majority in 2019 than it had won in 2014.

“We will return to power strongly and with a good majority. We will win with a bigger majority than what we got in 2014,” Sitharaman quoted him as saying.

Top party leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief ministers of party-ruled states, were in attendance as Shah asserted that it will return to power on the basis of the government’s performance, Modi’s charismatic leadership and its organisational strength.
