The online game, 'Blue Whale Challenge' strikes again as Pondicherry University student commits suicide by hanging himself from tree.
In a suspected case of online game 'Blue Whale Challenge', a Pondicherry University student commits suicide by hanging himself from tree on Thursday night.
According to ANI report, the preliminary probe points to Blue Whale Challenge as the reason behind it.
Sasi Kumar Bera, 19, a first year MBA student at Pondicherry University, from Assam was found hanging from a tree using a dhoti by a student, who alerted the hostel officials. The university authorities informed the police.
The body have been sent it for postmortem examination. However the state police is yet to confirm if the recent suicides are linked to the cyber game.
Moreover, this is the first death reported in the union territory due to the game which has claimed many young lives in the country and around the world.
On Wednesday Vignesh, a second year college student from Thirumangalam, Madurai committed suicide by hanging himself.
According to the reports, a picture of blue whale was drawn on his arm and a suicide note has also been recovered. "Blue Whale is not a game but danger and once entered you can never exit", the note read. While a class 10 student from West Bengal's Midnapore district allegedly committed suicide by suffocating himself a couple of days back, a 14-year-old Mumbai boy jumped off the terrace of his home on August 1 in a bid to complete the task, as reported.
The Central government has banned the Blue Whale game. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has ordered internet platforms, including Google India, Facebook, WhatsApp, Yahoo India, Instagram and Microsoft India, to identify and immediately remove links in connection with the Blue Whale Challenge.
The online game, which originated in Russia, starts by asking participants via social media to take self-harming tasks. It includes a list of 50 tasks that ends with a claim to player's life.
