Five BSF personnel injured in suspected militant attack in Srinagar

New Delhi:

At least five Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were injured on Monday in a suspected militant attack on their vehicle in the Pantha chowk area on the outskirts of Srinagar city, police said.

A BSF official said the incident took place when around 6:15 PM when some gunmen opened fire on the BSF patrol vehicle at the Pantha chowk, resulting in injuries to five jawans.

He said the injured personnel, belonging to the 163rd battalion, have been rushed to near a hospital and the one jawan is stated to be critical. Security forces have launched a hunt to track down the attackers after cordoning off the area.

This incident comes a day after Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir, a sub-inspector of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, on his way home was shot dead by militants in Pulwama district in South Kashmir. His body was recovered from the Chewa Kalan area of the district, the officials said.
