Heavy downpour continues to hit several parts of the country and death toll due to flood-related incidents have risen to 225. Nearly 100 people have lost their lives only in Kerala, where a red alert has been issued in districts of Malappuram and Kozhikode, and Orange alert has been issued in districts of Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasargod for Wednesday. Meanwhile, tight security arrangements have been put in place in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Independence Day.

4.20 pm: National Commission for Women takes suo-motu cognisance of the case in which 2 tribal women hockey players were reportedly found hanging from a tree by a single rope in Simdega, Jharkhand. NCW has asked DGP to investigate the matter & send a detailed report to the commission.

4.15 pm: Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Deputy Commandant Harshpal Singh awarded Kirti Chakra for his role in a counter terrorist operation in Jammu and Kashmir in which three Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists were killed.
