New Delhi:

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday said the 2G verdict was examined “prima facie” and the agency will appeal against special court’s judgement in the Delhi High Court.

"CBI will appeal against special court's verdict in 2G case in Delhi High Court," CBI spokesperson Abhishek Dayal said.

A special CBI court on Thursday acquitted all accused including former telecom minister A Raja in the 2G spectrum scam case.

On the special court’s verdict, CBI said, “Today’s judgement has been prima facie examined & it appears that evidence adduced to substantiate charges by the prosecution has not been appreciated in its proper perspective by the learned court. CBI will be taking necessary legal remedies in the matter.

The judgment brought a huge sigh of relief to the Congress as the party had to face massive outrage over the scam and BJP had used the issue as one of its main weapons against it in 2014 Lok Sabha election.

Former telecom minister A Raja was one of the main accused in the case including DMK chief M Karunanidhi’s daughter M. K. Kanimozhi and 15 others.

After the court’s verdict all of them were acquitted from the charges of corruption.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh hailed the verdict of the court and came out in defense of the UPA Govt by stating that "massive propaganda" against the UPA on the 2G spectrum was without any foundation. The judgment of the Special CBI court speaks for itself.

"I do not want to boast (about) anything. The court's judgement has to be respected. I am glad that the court has pronounced unambiguously. All the massive propaganda which was being done against the UPA was without any foundation. The judgment speaks for itself," Singh said.
