Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday called for an all-party meeting on December 10, a day ahead of the commencement of the Winter Session of Parliament, according to reports. The meeting which will also mark attendance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to build a consensus for a smooth conduct of the proceedings in the Upper House. Among other prominent figures, the meeting is expected to be attended by Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad and the Leader of the House, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
"The Government has called for an all-party meeting on 10 December at 11 AM ahead of Parliament Winter Session. PM Narendra Modi will also be present in the meeting," the news agency ANI reported.

On several occasions, Naidu has expressed concern over the deadlock between the ruling and the opposition sides that has halted the smooth functioning of the House.

The government will push for the passage of the long-pending Triple Talaq bill in Parliament's winter session. It had earlier promulgated an ordinance to make the practice of instant Triple Talaq in the Muslim Community a criminal offence.
This will be the last full-fledged Parliament session before the general elections next year and the BJP-led government will ensure to make it productive. For the Congress-led opposition parties, it will be the last chance to take on the government in the House.
The results of the Assembly elections in five states, in which both the ruling BJP and the Congress have high stakes, are bound to cast a shadow on the parliamentary proceedings. While polling in Chhattisgarh, Mizoram and Madhya Pradesh took place in November, Assembly polls in Rajasthan and Telangana are slated for December 7.

The results of the Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram Assembly polls will be announced on December 11.
