Kanker:
Two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel including an assistant commandant rank officer were killed in an encounter with CPI-Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Naxal hit district Kanker on Wednesday.
Bastar range Inspector General of Police (IG) Vivekanand Sinha confirmed the development to media.
Sinha said, “Joint security forces including Chhattisgarh Police and BSF’s 134 the battalion were in an anti-insurgency operation at Kilenar forest under the Rawghat police station limits.”
Another senior police officer said, “The Maoists triggered series of improvised explosive devices (IED) and indiscriminately opened fire at the team engaged in anti-insurgency operation. The joint team gave a befitting reply to the Naxals but unfortunately two BSF soldiers were killed in the encounter.”

The deceased have been identified as Assistant Commandant Gajendra Singh, a native of Haryana and Amresh Kumar from Bihar. The duo had suffered fatal splinter injuries from the series of IED explosions.
The officer added that Naxals managed to flee the the encounter site taking benefit of the dense forest. “A fresh search operation has been launched in the area to nab the Naxals,” added the officer.
