Congress gears up for 2019 Lok Sabha elections, forms three crucial committees

New Delhi:

As 2019 Lok Sabha polls are approaching the nation, the Opposition Congress has started gearing up for the general elections and formed three crucial committees on Saturday. The committees will look after the party’s election affairs related to coordination, manifesto and publicity.

In a press briefing, Senior Congress leader and national general secretary Ashok Gehlot announced that party president Rahul Gandhi had formed a nine-member Core Group Committee that will look after the coordination between the party workers and leaders.

The committee is a mix of senior and youth leaders and comprises former minister AK Antony, Rajya Sabha MP Ghulam Nabi Azad, former finance minister P Chidambaram, Ashok Gehlot, Lok Sabha MP Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi’s advisor Ahmed Patel, former environment minister Jairam Ramesh, chief Congress spokesman Randeep Surjewala and KC Venugopal.

The Congress president has also formed a 19-member committee that will work out on the party’s manifesto for 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The Congress party had earlier said that its manifesto will be prepared by listening to people on the ground and not by sitting in AC rooms.

To look into the promotion and publicity of the party in the general elections, a separate committee, comprising top 19 party leaders, has also been formed.
