New Delhi:
A UP Police constable on Saturday died during the physical examination for Sub Inspector (SI) recruitment at the ground of the 38 Battalion of PAC in Aligarh.
Fifteen other participants also fainted during the course of the physical examination, mainly due to heat and humid conditions.
Constable Ankur Ahlawat, posted at Meerut PAC 6th Battalion, had completed the race almost 1:32 minutes less than the qualifying time. After finishing the race, he lay down and suddenly started frothing at the mouth and collapsed.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital from where he was referred to a private hospital following his deteriorating condition. However, he was declared dead during the treatment there. He was from Baghpat district, said police.
The other 15 participants, who fainted during the tests were admitted to a local hospital and were kept under observation.
The family of the constable has been informed and his body has been sent for post-mortem, superintendent of police Ashutosh Dwivedi told a leading media house.
“Due to hot weather conditions, about 5-6 participants faint every day as they have physical issues. On Saturday, over 600 participants were present for the physical test, which was scheduled in four shifts including three in the morning,†Dwivedi added.
The three-day examination were scheduled from July 1, but was postponed to Wednesday due to rain and bad weather and Saturday was the last day.
The UP Police Promotion and Recruitment Board has started recruitment for 5,000 vacancies for sub-inspectors.
