Hasin Jahan, the estranged wife of Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami on Tuesday joined the Congress party. Jahan joined the Congress in presence of Mumbai Congress Committee President Sanjay Nirupam in Mumbai.
Earlier this year, Hasin Jahan came to media limelight after she accused Mohammed Shami of infidelity, domestic violence and marital rape.
In March 2018, Jahan took to Facebook and posted some screenshots of Shami's alleged chats with other women. Jahan has also accused Shami of meeting a Pakistani bookie, hinting at his possible involvement in match-fixing.
The accusations prompted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to withhold his annual contract and launch a probe against him. Shami, however, came out clean in the investigation by BCCI's anti-corruption unit.
Recently, Shami had submitted an application to the District Magistrate of Amroha for a gunner, claiming threat to his life.
