New Delhi:

A Delhi court on Wednesday sent two Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs to judicial custody for a day after their bail plea. The plea filed by police for two-day custodial interrogation was also rejected.

The Delhi Police had arrested Amantullah Khan and Prakash Jarwal in connection with an alleged assault on Delhi chief secretary Anshu Prakash during a meeting called at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence on February 19 night.

Police had arrested Jarwal on Tuesday night, while Khan was taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon.

The police had produced the two lawmakers before the court amid tight security.

The metropolitan magistrate Shefali Barnala Tandon refused the duo lawmakers custody to Delhi Police.

Public prosecutor Atul Shrivastava sought two days police custody of both the lawmakers saying that they had committed a serious crime of assaulting the senior-most officer of the state and the attack has caused serious injured.

The public prosecutor also submitted medical examination in connection to the attack with the court.

Shrivastava added that total of 11 people were involved in the incident. “The two MLAs have to be confronted with other accused to unearth the larger conspiracy,” added the public prosecutor.

Advocate BS Joon, appearing for Khan and Jarwal, opposed the application for police custody. He said, “Khan and Jarwal will cooperate in the probe. The charge of assaulting public servant was invoked in the FIR without conducting the MLC of the bureaucrat.”
