New Delhi:

A Dera Sacha Sauda follower committed suicide by hanging himself in a toilet of Ambala Central Jail, police said.

The deceased was identified as one Ravinder, a resident of Sarsawa in Uttar Pradesh.

According to police the Ravinder was arrested by the police in connection to the violence in Panchkula on August 25 after the the court announced Dera Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim convict in rape case.

Ambala superintendent of police (SP) Abhishek Jorwal said, “Ravinder was lodged to Amabala Central Jail after his arrest in connection to Panchkula violence.”

The police added that a jail inmate found Ravinder’s body hanging from jail’s toilet who later informed the jail administration.

Later in the day Ravinder’s body was sent for postmortem report.

“We have informed the deceased’s relatives,” added the SP.

CBI court on August 25 had pronounced Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim convict. Soon after the pronouncement Dera followers turned violent and torched several vehicles and attacked media people and police. The violence was witnessed largely in Haryana’s Panchkula.
