Digvijaya Singh, the senior Congress leader and two-time Chief Minister, on Wednesday dared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to file sedition case against him over ‘Pulwama accident’ tweet. In series of early morning tweets, Singh said that the Modi govt has not yet answered the questions over the ‘intelligence failure’ in the Pulwama terror attack. Day before, Singh had raised the concerns over the proof of the Balakot air strike. In one of the tweets, Singh had termed the Pulwama terror attack as a ‘durghatna’ or ‘accident’. Soon, it snowballed in a major political controversy with as many as three senior BJP ministers slamming him and saying the Congress leader is speaking in the ’language of Pakistan.’
In today’s tweets, Singh said that the ‘Pakistan supporting’ tweet was posted from Delhi and the police in the National Capital comes under the Centre. “If you have the courage, then file case against me,” Singh said. He said that why the Modi government has not sought clarification from the NSA, RA&W or IB chief over the Pulwama terror attack.
The Tuesday comments elicited angry responses from senior BJP ministers. “With due respect, I would like to ask Digvijaya Singh Ji, was Rajiv Gandhi's assassination an accident or a terror incident," asked Union Minister VK Singh.
Apart from Singh, another senior BJP minister had slammed Digvijaya Singh over the attack. Prakash Javadekar said that, “I don’t know what has happened to Congress? The party is going against nation’s sentiments. They are falsifying armed forces’ information. There is no such democracy, where people don’t believe the armed forces.”
The BJP on Tuesday accused the Congress of "lowering the morale and prestige" of the forces by seeking evidence of the airstrike carried out by the Indian Air Force on a Jaish-e-Mohammed terror camp in Pakistan. Union minister and BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad alleged that senior Congress leaders were speaking in the "language of Pakistan".
"They are not speaking in isolation. They have the blessings of (Congress president) Rahul Gandhi and (UPA chairperson) Sonia Gandhi," Prasad said, naming senior Congress leaders P Chidambaram, Kapil Sibal and Digvijaya Singh.
No foreign country has sought evidence of the air strike, the BJP leader said, adding that Congress leaders do not believe in Indian media reports. By seeking proof, he said, the Congress was "lowering the morals and prestige" of the security forces.
